Cuba admits over one million left amid economic crisis – July 19, 2024

Cuba has admitted that over one million people left the country between 2022 and 2023, marking the largest migration wave in its history. The population dropped from 11.2 million to 10.1 million, largely due to mass emigration driven by a severe economic crisis and government repression. Most migrants went to the U.S., causing significant demographic changes and severely impacting the island’s labor force and social programs.
